Lake McDonald was our first stop in the National Park. It was huge and gorgeous. There were people swimming in it, but we just walked along the beach
The first form of wild life we came in contact with was this bug. Through out our trip we saw many animals. All seemed very accustomed to being photographed and awed over.
The lake was so clear and blue, it was also very cold.. of course it is glacier water, so what else would it be.
Starboy saved his allowance since school got out so he could get a cool souvenir on our trip. He chose a green pocket knife. He was so excited to carve his first stick. He ended up cutting himself, but after a bandaid and listening to the safty instruction for a second time, he did much better. He feels so grown up having his own pocket knife from Montana.
We went on one hike that was through an area that was burned in 2003. You could see all of the tall burned trees and then all the new growth that is coming up underneath. It really was interesting. It reminded me a lot of when I went to Yellowstone as a teenager a few years after their big fire. Starboy enjoyed climbing the trees, I enjoyed the designs made by all the fallen trees.
